Lynas Rare Earth is a global leader in rare-earth element production, with mining and processing operations at their Mt Weld Mine and refining facilities in Malaysia. The company is expanding its refining capabilities with a new hydrometallurgical refinery in Kalgoorlie, Australia.
The Kalgoorlie refinery is designed to support the growing demand for rare-earth elements, utilising advanced hydrometallurgical processes to produce high-purity rare-earth materials. This new facility will play a crucial role in Lynas' strategy to become a key supplier of rare earths for various industries, including electric vehicles, renewable energy, and advanced technologies.

Scope
Sedgman was engaged by Lynas Rare Earth to deliver two of the three major design packages for the hydrometallurgical sections of the Kalgoorlie refinery. Our team worked closely with Lynas' technical personnel to ensure seamless integration of the design packages, ensuring the project's success.
The work, completed over a 12-month period, encompassed a range of critical engineering and design services. In addition to the design, Sedgman also provided construction support to ensure smooth execution of the project.
Outcome
Through close collaboration with Lynas, Sedgman successfully delivered key design packages for the Kalgoorlie refinery. The outcome was a robust and efficient refinery design that meets the project’s technical and operational goals.
