Guelb Moghrein Copper Gold Project
Sedgman assisted the client in two phases to resurrect a copper and gold project more than 30 years after it was decommissioned in the late 1970s due to excessive operating costs.
Initial detailed engineering, procurement and commissioning assistance for crushing, grinding, flotation, concentrate handling, carbon-in-leach (CIL), tailings disposal, power station, infrastructure and a 113 km water pipeline. Upgrades to gold flotation, CIL circuit and infrastructure.
Of note was a geodesic dome to protect crushed ore stockpile from the effects of wind. As a cost saving, the HDPE pipe was extruded on site.
Post the original build of the facilities Sedgman was retained to complete upgrades to gold flotation, CIL circuit and infrastructure.
Sedgman was engaged to provide the following:
- Detailed engineering procurement, and construction (EPC)
- Re-equipping the borefield and a new 113 km water pipeline.
OUTCOMES
In 2009, the plant was successfully commissioned following upgrading to a throughput of 3.87 Mt/a incorporating additional milling capacity, new rougher flotation circuit and an additional borefield and parallel 113 km water pipeline. A second upgrade to increase the capacity of the CIL plant was also completed in 2009.The redevelopment of the Guelb Moghrein facility at a throughput of 2.0 Mt/a treating sulphide ore, was completed in 2006 utilising flotation and CIL. The initial scope of work included crushing, grinding, flotation, concentrate handling, CIL, tailings disposal, power station, infrastructure as well as the water pipeline.
