Operational readiness means the operating environment is made ready before the asset is asked to perform. Based on decades of experience as contract operators, Sedgman supports clients by preparing the people, systems, procedures, maintenance inputs, training materials and site information needed to move from project completion into safer start-up, controlled handover and more confident early production.

Our approach is practical. We help identify start-up risks, define what operating teams need, align readiness activity with commissioning and ramp-up, and support the transfer of critical know-how from project delivery into the operational setting. This can include operating procedure readiness, maintenance and spares inputs, sampling and analysis regimes, logistics and procurement readiness, HSEQ planning, training materials and transition-team support.

What We Deliver

We develop operational readiness plans that define the activities, accountabilities, sequencing and controls required to move from project delivery into commissioning, start-up and early operations. This can include readiness execution phases, task lists, risk registers, readiness reviews, validation checks and handover criteria so the project, commissioning and operations teams have a shared view of what must be ready before the asset is placed under production pressure. 

We prepare the practical operating systems and procedures needed to support safe, controlled operation from day one. This can include operating plans, standard operating procedures, work instructions, isolation matrices, start-up and shutdown inputs, sampling and analysis regimes, production reporting requirements, shift reporting routines and site-specific information required by operators, supervisors and technical support teams. 

We support maintenance readiness by developing the maintenance strategies, equipment tactics and work-management inputs required before steady-state operation is established. This can include asset criticality assessments, preventative maintenance schedules, condition monitoring and lubrication routines, strategic and critical spares lists, warehousing and procurement readiness, work packaging and master data inputs for enterprise, maintenance and contractor management platforms. Our approach is informed by Sedgman’s operating experience, where maintenance systems, planning discipline and spares readiness are central to reliable plant performance. 

We help clients prepare the systems and data interfaces that support operating visibility, process control and early performance management. This can include production reporting systems, metallurgical accounting inputs, SCADA or plant control interfaces, historian and trending requirements, digital monitoring platforms, remote support pathways and KPI reporting for throughput, recovery, availability, utilisation, product quality and operating stability. Where appropriate, Sedgman can draw on operational tools such as SEDGMETRIX-enabled monitoring, remote technical support, condition monitoring sensors and production reporting systems to help teams see emerging issues earlier and make better-informed operating decisions. 

We support HSEQ planning, workforce mobilisation and competency development so operating teams are ready to work safely and effectively before and during start-up. This can include HSEQ plans and procedures, role definition, recruitment support, training needs analysis, competency-based training modules, practical field training, assessments, plant orientation and supervisor/ operator/ maintainer readiness activities. The focus is on building the capability, behaviours and operating discipline required to support safe transition into production.

This transition support can help clients troubleshoot start-up issues, transfer project knowledge, embed operating routines, support practical training, coordinate maintenance and spares readiness, and stabilise the operating model during the period when commissioning, ramp-up and production priorities overlap.
