At Sedgman, we have a proud history of innovation in minerals processing, and the health, safety and longevity of our people.
At the end of 2021, we celebrated the Kempnich Safety and Meakin Technical Innovation Award winners and 63 service milestones ranging from five to 25 years of service.
Service Awards
Nearly 10 per cent of Sedgman’s team has worked with us for five, 10, 15, 20, or 25 years (a quarter of a century!). The longevity of our team means Sedgman has extensive experience, talent and strong industry relationships.
Here is a snapshot of just some of our people, we had service milestones across our business from Perth to Brisbane, Shanghai, and Queensland in 2021.
Kempnich Safety Award
One of Sedgman’s top priorities is the health and safety of our people and the communities touched by our business operations. The Kempnich Award recognises employees who uphold these standards and improve the safety of our people.
The winner of the 2021 Kempnich Safety Award is Megan Kropp!
In a year impacted by COVID-19 cases, lockdowns, and closed borders, Megan received multiple nominations recognising her tireless work in keeping her team safe.
Megan has gone over and above to ensure her team and their families have remained well and safe.
She has displayed outstanding leadership, both in safety and operations, achieving a high level of production and executing shut down schedules.
Among other achievements, Megan:
- implemented communication sessions
- developed site-specific information documentation
- implemented off-site rapid antigen testing in conjunction with the client
- strategically planned and coordinated shutdowns to reduce potential COVID-19 exposures and interactions
- ran an education session.
Meakin Technical Innovation Award
Sedgman has a history of innovation in minerals processing. Our ability to discover benchmark solutions and push boundaries in design and technology has established us as a global engineering leader.
The Meakin Technical Innovation Award recognises outstanding work to advance the technical knowledge that keeps Sedgman at the forefront of our sector.
The winner of the 2021 Meakin Technical Innovation Award is Shree Somashekar!
Shree was nominated for her work on Advanced Process Data Modelling. Shree worked with process engineers to understand surging and roping events in dense medium and desliming cyclones in the field. She used this research to develop models and took feedback from the site sensors to allow notifications to be sent when roping was occurring. This provides a higher of level feedback from sensors installed at Byerwen, as part of SEDGMETRIX (formerly known as SMART Plant) testing.
Rapidly identifying and rectifying these process abnormalities prevents extended periods of lost plant efficiency and productivity. This builds on Sedgman's reputation as a technical and operational leader, with some of this work published by the Australian Coal Preparation Society.
Safety and innovation are key factors driving our performance and delivering excellent outcomes for our clients which is why we recognise and reward safety and innovation leaders within our business.
We look forward to more safety advancements and innovation improvements in 2022.
