We are committed to delivering our services in a way that contributes to the positive long-term outcomes for the regions in which we operate. For us, sustainability means integrating environmental, social, and governance factors into our decision making, contributing to safe and healthy employees, communities, ecosystems and maximising shareholder value.

Sedgman implements industry best practice and environmental management standards to minimise the impact associated with engineering projects and operations. We are proud of our certification to the ISO14001 environmental management standard for our projects from concept through to commissioning.

We are focused on innovating and implementing fit-for-purpose solutions to support our clients in initiatives such as reducing water usage, tailings reprocessing, removing the requirement for new tailings dams, and designing for efficient energy use.

At the Alcoa Kwinana refinery we installed the largest plate and frame filters in the world to defer the need to construct new drying areas, and the associated environmental impacts.

Social Responsibility

We contribute to the communities in which we live and work by partnering with local organisations whose missions align with our community engagement vision:

Valuing Diversity. Supporting Communities.  Investing in our Future.

Over the last year we have sponsored a range of community initiatives including:

Austmine Women in STEM METS Career Pathway Program:

In 2017/18 we enthusiastically supported this inaugural program that aims to raise awareness of the mining equipment, technology and services (METS) sector and career opportunities. We hosted a student and extended her employment beyond the 12-week placement. We look forward to our next Austmine STEM METS placement.

Indigenous Literacy Foundation:

We are proud to support the ILF, who are working to improve the lives and opportunities of Indigenous Australians living in remote communities through the provision of books and literacy resources in over 200 communities across Australia.

Isaac Regional Charity Fund:

For two years we have supported this organisation in its work to aid persons in distress in the Isaac district of central Queensland. Sedgman has a strong presence in this location, we are proud to support an organisation that is providing assistance to tackle local issues.

Mackay Special Children's Christmas party:

In 2018 we supported this charity in their work to provide an annual event for children with disabilities. With many of our families living and working in this area, we are proud of our contribution to this grass-roots organisation.

Little Windmills:

In conjunction with our client at Middlemount, we support this charity in their work providing vital services to rural children with who are ill or have special needs.

Women in Mining network (WIMnet) conference:

Sponsorship of this conference highlighted our commitment to empowering diverse leadership in the resources industry.
