Sedgman was initially engaged by the BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) to undertake design for a 2,400 t/h coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP).

Under BMA’s Hub Agreement we have worked closely with client representative Bechtel since 2010 to provide detailed engineering and procurement (EP), as well as construction and commissioning support for the coal processing plant and ROM bin, as well as other engineering support that continued through the construction phase.

The Caval Ridge CHPP comprises a 2400 t/h North ROM receival and sizing facility, a 2400 t/h CPP, reject handling and bin, tailings filter building, linear slewing and luffing raw coal stacking and reclaiming, product conveyors, linear slewing and luffing product stacking and reclaiming and train loadout system.

Sedgman was awarded scope variations during the design. Significant variations were North ROM Bin design, train load out (TLO) concrete design, CPP bulk excavation design and mass balance sampler design.

Sedgman’s strong relationship with the client combined with our technical expertise lead to the award of pre-commissioning and load commissioning contracts for the entire CHPP as well as design enhancement works on the back of the commissioning contract.
