An innovative modular designed Coal Handling and Processing Plant (CHPP) was key to meeting our client’s schedule and budget objectives, demonstrating Sedgman’s ongoing commitment to client focused solutions.

This project continues Sedgman’s long history with Q-Coal through providing engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services for a 4,500 t/h train loadout (TLO) facility and a 550 t/h CHPP. The CHPP produces both a coking coal and a thermal coal product, maximising the value obtained from the resource.

Sedgman delivered the facility in two stages – the first stage being a Train Load Out (TLO), followed by a complete CHPP. This staging enabled early production and sale of bypass coal through TLO while the CHPP was being constructed and commissioned.

For this project, an innovative modular designed CHPP was selected, with the modules being fabricated and assembled in China before being transported to Australia. Sedgman’s China office managed the fabrication and assembly process, ensuring a high quality product was delivered. The modular design was a major success, significantly reducing site hours, construction duration and exposure to high risk construction work.
