Aurora Gold Project

Sedgman was initially engaged to provide feed engineering that led to the contracted engineering procurement and construction (EPC) delivery of the gold processing facility for Guyana Goldfields' flagship Aurora Project.

The project was delivered through a joint venture with leading South American constructor Graña y Montero (GyM). The GyM Sedgman Joint Venture combined Sedgman’s robust process and execution knowledge and operational experience with local project construction capability depth from GyM.

First gold production was achieved within 18 months due to the flexible feed system design incorporating both saprolite crushing and hard rock crushing and circuits that was matched to the mine development and transition zones. The project’s remote logistical challenges and tropical environment tested the team; however, extensive planning, local engagement and client collaboration ensured a positive outcome.

The scope of works

The contracted scope of works included detailed design, procurement and construction for a 1.75 Mt/a processing plant, with selected infrastructure works included.

The EPC delivery of the processing facilities included:

  • Run of mine receival system including two materials handling system for primary crushing of the saprolite and hard rock ore.
  • SAG milling, cyclone classification, gravity circuit, carbon in leach (CIL), elution and refining, and detox.
  • Power generation system.

The EPCM projected delivery of:

  • Site accommodation camp.
  • Site earthworks roads, airstrip.
  • Mine infrastructure buildings and administration.
