Grant Fraser NHD Eng (Mechanical) GAICD
Grant was appointed as Managing Director in September 2017. During 20 years with CIMIC Group, Grant has held a number of senior management positions including EIC Activities General Manager, Thiess Sedgman Joint Venture Manager and most recently Thiess General Manager.
Grant’s previous experience includes 18 years with Thiess where he was responsible for the delivery of engineering, procurement and construction projects. Grant has engineering and construction experience in the resources and energy industry, working on oil and gas and minerals processing projects globally. He has delivered major projects and demonstrated skills in strategy, business development, tendering and project delivery.
Mitchell Bayer BCom, MCom(App Fin), CPA, GAICD.
Chief Financial Officer
Mitchell joined Sedgman in August 2016 and was appointed Chief Financial Officer in December 2016. Mitchell is responsible for leading the Finance, Taxation, Information Systems Technology and Shared Services teams globally.
Mitchell holds and Bachelor of Commerce degree from JCU, is a member of CPA Australia and has a Masters in Applied Finance from the University of Queensland. Mitchell has over 20 years’ finance experience across the construction, mining and services industries. Prior to joining Sedgman, he held various senior roles at Ventia and Thiess, where he was responsible for business planning and analysis, financial governance and compliance, financial risk management and business transformation.
John Buttner B.Ec, LL.B, LL.M
John joined Sedgman as Director Legal and Commercial in August 2016 and is responsible for legal and commercial management, which also embraces the role of Company Secretary and overseeing governance and risk processes.
Since being admitted to legal practice in Queensland in 1990, John has extensive legal and commercial experience across the construction, infrastructure and mining services sectors gained in private practice and in-house roles. Prior to joining Sedgman, John held the position of Senior Counsel at Thiess since 2000, with responsibility for major resources infrastructure and contract mining. In that time John worked closely with Sedgman on the Thiess Sedgman Joint Venture projects.
Cath Turner BBus,MHlthSc (HSE), ChOHSP
General Manager, Health, Safety, Security, Environment & Quality
Cath joined Sedgman in 2019 and is responsible for leading and providing strategic direction to the Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality functions globally. Cath has held various HSE senior management and technical roles with over 15 years of experience across the mining, construction and manufacturing sectors and has a proven track record for delivering strong and sustainable gains in workplace health and safety globally.
Prior to joining Sedgman she was Global Director of HSE at ESCO Corporation
responsible for health, safety and environment functions across 23 countries.
Cath has previously held roles at Thiess and the Thiess Sedgman Joint venture.
Ken Boulton BE(Mech)(Hons)
General Manager, Operations
Ken joined Sedgman in 2006 and is responsible for operations globally, including coal and metals plant operations. Ken was previously Executive General Manager Australian Operations, responsible for Australian processing facility operations and the support of off-shore operations activities.
He possesses a mechanical engineering background and has gained significant operational understanding from 20 years of experience within the resources sector, including involvement within coal, base and precious metals processing operations. Prior to joining Sedgman Ken assumed management roles at Goldcorp and Mount Isa Mines, where he was responsible for the maintenance and operations of mining infrastructure, mobile fleet and minerals processing facilities.
Samantha Douglas BBus (HRM&IntBus), MEmpLaw, GAID
General Manager, People & Corporate Services
Samantha joined Sedgman in 2005 and is responsible for leading and providing strategic direction to the People & Corporate Services team globally.
Prior to her current role, Samantha held the role of Chief Human Resources Officer and was responsible for leading human resources globally and was extensively involved in the development of Sedgman's human resources infrastructure and governance. Samantha has held various senior management and technical roles and has over 15 years’ of experience across the mining, construction and professional services sectors.
Simon Stockwell BE(Mech)(Hons), GCAppLaw
General Manager, Engineering and Procurement
Simon rejoined Sedgman in 2011 having worked for the Company previously from 1995 to 2002. Simon is responsible for Engineering and Procurement globally. Simon’s previous roles include Director Client and Project Development, Regional Director Australia East and Asia and General Manager - Projects, responsible for the successful delivery of engineering, studies and projects across Australia.
Simon is a Mechanical Engineer with over 25 years experience across the resources, power and infrastructure industries. Prior to rejoining Sedgman, he was Operations Manager for AMEC Minproc in Brisbane. He has also held senior roles at Thiess, UGL and Kellogg Brown & Root.
Jordan Tomasel BE(Mech), LMDPM
General Manager, Projects
Jordan joined Sedgman in March 2018 and is responsible for project delivery globally. Jordan has been with the CIMIC Group for the last 12 years, most recently with CPB Contractors.
Prior to his current role, Jordan held various project leadership roles with Thiess and CPB Contractors including Project Director on QCLNG and APLNG Projects. Jordan has previous experience in the delivery of Engineer, Procure and Construct projects with the Thiess Sedgman Joint Venture. He has successfully delivered complex multidisciplinary oil and gas and resource projects and has demonstrated skills in establishing and leading high performance teams, achieving financial targets and safety leadership.
Steve van Barneveld BE (Min Tech)(Hons)
General Manager, Strategy and Growth
Steve rejoined Sedgman in 2016 having worked for the company previously from 1987 to 2010. Steve is responsible for Growth and Strategy globally.
Steve has 30 years’ experience across the resources and infrastructure sectors internationally. His experience at Sedgman includes roles as Process Engineer, Principal Engineer and Chief Operating Officer of the coal division. From 2006 until 2010 Steve was responsible for the successful delivery of studies, engineering, projects and operations in Australia and the diversification of services into Africa, Mongolia and South America.
Steve is a Non-Exec Director of Jameson Resources Limited (ASX:JAL).
